Increasingly in Australia it is becoming clearer that there are networks of architects, artists, makers, designers, landscapers, gardeners and others who aim to work together collaboratively and cooperatively to make and create more sustainable 'places' in which to live and work. They work across many different realms within the broad context of 'cultural production'.

The driving force is the recognition of the need to utilise local, REcycled and ONcycled materials, raw natural and engineered materials, to provide a contemporaneous mindset for community engagement developing a sustaining 'placedness'. That is places that better fit the circumstances of developing diverse contemporary cultural realities.

Education training is by necessity at core of, rhizomatic networks that celebrate the design and making process in the context of ACTIONresearch and the development of 21st C appropriate technologies.

The work of these networks spans cultural production in broad context – residential dwellings, work places, interior design, cultural landscaping, public installation, publications and festive events.

Increasingly bamboo is finding its way into to the work of these networks and in a sense unsurprisingly so. As technology enables humanity moves across the planet with more fluidity than at any time in human history it is not that surprising that treasured cultural knowledge and understandings come along too.
